Checking YouTube TV…

Reading the latest result from our servers.

We test tv.youtube.com from our servers. This shows whether the public addresses answer, not what happens inside the app.

Checks run on our servers. We do not keep a list of the addresses you check.

How to use it

  1. Read the live status above. It tests YouTube TV from outside your network.
  2. Open the official YouTube TV Help page for confirmed incidents.
  3. If YouTube TV is up, work through the fixes below, cheapest first.
  4. Press the report button if it still fails, so other visitors see it.

Is YouTube TV down for everyone or only for you?

YouTube TV is a live TV service. Channels reach you as live streams from the networks, and the app adds your recordings from a cloud DVR. A single channel can fail because of a problem at its network while the rest play. Local channels also depend on your location, which is why a correct address matters as much as a good connection.

Google asks you to set a home area, which is the zip code of your residence, and it also tracks your current playback location. If those do not match the service can restrict channels. Our check requests tv.youtube.com from outside your network. We could not confirm a dedicated status page, so the Help Center is the official support resource.

The live check on this page requests tv.youtube.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside YouTube TV works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.

What usually breaks with YouTube TV

Live channel will not play

One channel shows an error while others work. The feed from that network may be down.

Buffering and low quality

Video stalls or looks soft. A slow connection or a weak Wi-Fi signal on the TV is the usual cause.

Local channels missing

Local channels do not appear or say they are unavailable. Your home area or current location may be wrong.

DVR and library

Recordings do not load while live TV works. The DVR library is a separate part of the service.

App will not open

The app closes or hangs on a smart TV or stick. Old app versions and cache are common causes.

How to fix YouTube TV when it only fails for you

Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.

  1. Check your location settings. Google says to start with location. Open Profile, then Settings, then Area to review your home area and current playback location.
  2. Try another channel. If only one channel fails, it is probably that network. Wait and retry later.
  3. Restart the app and device. Close the app, unplug the TV or stick for a minute and open YouTube TV again.
  4. Clear cache on the device. On Android TV go to Settings, Apps, YouTube TV, Clear cache. On Fire TV use Settings, Applications, Manage Installed Applications.
  5. Update the app. Install the latest YouTube TV from your device app store. Update the TV system software as well.
  6. Lower the video quality. In the player choose Settings, Quality, and pick a lower resolution to test your connection.
  7. Test on a phone or browser. Open tv.youtube.com or the phone app. If it plays, the TV app is the problem.
  8. Restart your network. Unplug the modem and router for 30 seconds. Move the TV closer to the router or use Ethernet.

If none of this helps and the live check above shows the service as up, read our guide on why a website is not loading, or see how to flush DNS.
