How to use it
- Read the live status above. It tests Netflix from outside your network.
- Open the official Netflix Is Netflix Down? page for confirmed incidents.
- If Netflix is up, work through the fixes below, cheapest first.
- Press the report button if it still fails, so other visitors see it.
Is Netflix down for everyone or only for you?
Netflix runs the account and browse side separately from video delivery. The website and app handle login, profiles and recommendations. The video itself comes from a content delivery network that is close to your internet provider. That is why the home screen can load while a title will not start, or the reverse.
Our check requests the Netflix website and a Netflix content host from outside your network. Netflix does not publish a classic status page. It runs an Is Netflix down page in its Help Center that tests your connection. If our check passes, the usual suspects are your TV, your router or stored app data.
The live check on this page requests www.netflix.com and assets.nflxext.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside Netflix works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.
What usually breaks with Netflix
Login and profiles
Sign-in spins or the profile screen never appears. This is the account side and is different from video delivery.
Playback will not start
A title shows a spinner then an error. Stored data on the device or a weak network is the usual cause.
Buffering and low quality
Video drops to blurry or keeps pausing. This is mostly bandwidth, Wi-Fi range or a busy home network.
TV and streaming stick apps
The app crashes, freezes or shows a network error on a smart TV, Roku, Fire TV or console.
Downloads
Titles fail to download or play offline on a phone or tablet. Storage space and app version often matter.
How to fix Netflix when it only fails for you
Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.
- Use the Is Netflix down page. At help.netflix.com/en/is-netflix-down Netflix runs a quick test. It tells you if the issue is on its side or yours.
- Choose Reload Netflix. On the error screen select More Details, then the option to reload Netflix. This clears the stored data that causes tvq-pb-101.
- Power cycle the device. Turn off the TV or streaming box, or unplug it, and leave it off for at least 30 seconds before starting again.
- Restart modem and router. Power both off, wait about 30 seconds and turn them on. Wait a few minutes for them to fully reconnect.
- Run the network check on the error screen. More Details on the NW-2-5 screen offers a network test. Netflix also suggests trying another internet app to see if the connection itself is the problem.
- Sign out and back in. On a TV, open Settings, then Sign out in the Netflix app. Sign in again with your own account details.
- Set DNS to automatic on consoles. On PlayStation and Xbox, Netflix says to set DNS to automatic. A custom DNS can break the connection to Netflix.
- Move the router or use Ethernet. Place the router closer, off the floor and away from appliances, or plug the TV in with a cable.
If none of this helps and the live check above shows the service as up, read our guide on why a website is not loading, or see how to flush DNS.
Common Netflix error messages
| Message or code | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| NW-2-5 | Netflix describes this as a network timeout: the device could not reach Netflix in time. It points to the device connection or home network. | Restart the device and router, run the network check and move closer to the router or use a cable. |
| tvq-pb-101 | Netflix says an issue with data stored on your device stops playback. | Select More Details, then Reload Netflix. If that fails, power the device off for at least 30 seconds. |
| Unable to connect to Netflix | A Netflix help page message shown when the device cannot reach the service. | Check the connection on other apps, restart the device and the home network. |
| Netflix has encountered an error | A general error message that Netflix documents for devices with a playback problem. | Restart the app or device and follow the steps in the Help Center article for your device. |

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if Netflix is down or if it is just me?
Use the live check above, then try the Is Netflix down page in the Help Center. If both say Netflix is fine, test another device on the same Wi-Fi to see whether the TV is the issue.
Does Netflix have a status page?
Not a traditional one. Netflix provides the Is Netflix down page at help.netflix.com/en/is-netflix-down, which tests your connection and reports whether there is a known issue.
Why does Netflix work on my phone but not my TV?
The TV app may hold corrupted stored data or an old network setting. Reload Netflix, power cycle the TV and check DNS settings.
What does NW-2-5 mean?
Netflix says the device failed to connect in time. It is usually your home network or the device connection, not a Netflix outage.
Can I fix tvq-pb-101 without reinstalling?
Often yes. Netflix says to select More Details and Reload Netflix. If that fails, a full power off for at least 30 seconds is the next step.
