Is HBO Max down for everyone or only for you?
HBO Max has a sign-in and account layer, a catalog layer, and a video delivery layer. When any of them hiccups, the app often shows the same vague message, Something went wrong, sometimes with a code. How to fix HBO Max when it only fails for you
Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.
- Force close and reopen. On a phone or TV, close HBO Max fully and open it again. On a computer, close and reopen the browser.
- Try a different title. If another title plays, the first one is the issue. Note its name for support.
- Update the app or browser. Install the latest app from your app store. On a computer update your browser.
- Sign out and power cycle. Sign out from your profile, or the Settings icon on a TV. Turn the device off for 30 seconds, turn it on and sign in.
- Test another device. If it works elsewhere, troubleshoot the original device. On a computer try Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge or Safari.
- Restart modem and router. Unplug the modem and router, wait 30 seconds, plug in the modem and wait about a minute, then plug in the router.
- Hard refresh the browser. Press Ctrl+Shift+R (Cmd+Shift+R on Mac) on hbomax.com.
- Contact support with the code. Open the Help Center and give the exact message or code shown on screen.
