Is Fortnite Down?

Fortnite stuck on login, matchmaking error on screen or friends not showing? The live check tells you whether Epic's servers answer, and the fixes cover problems on your side.

Checking Fortnite…

Reading the latest result from our servers.

We test www.fortnite.com and www.epicgames.com from our servers. This shows whether the public addresses answer, not what happens inside the app.

Tell us if Fortnite does not work for you. One report per visitor every 10 minutes.

Checks run on our servers. We do not keep a list of the addresses you check.

How to use it

  1. Read the live status above. It tests Fortnite from outside your network.
  2. Open the official Epic Games Status page for confirmed incidents.
  3. If Fortnite is up, work through the fixes below, cheapest first.
  4. Press the report button if it still fails, so other visitors see it.

Is Fortnite down for everyone or only for you?

Epic's status page splits Fortnite into Website, Game Services, Login, Parties/Friends/Messaging, Voice Chat, Matchmaking, Stats and Leaderboards, Item Shop, Fortnite Crew, LEGO Fortnite and Fortnite Festival. A matchmaking outage keeps you from joining a match while login and the item shop work, and voice chat can fail alone.

Our check requests the Fortnite website and the Epic account login page from outside your network. These pages may return an access response to scripts, which still shows the servers are up. If they answer and the game fails, the fault is usually your platform, your network or one component.

The live check on this page requests www.fortnite.com and www.epicgames.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside Fortnite works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.

What usually breaks with Fortnite

Login failures

The game cannot sign you in. Epic documents an Unable to login to Fortnite Servers message that appears when the game cannot load quickly enough to connect.

Matchmaking errors

You cannot join a match and see a Matchmaking Error number. Epic ties errors #1, #2 and #3 mainly to maintenance or network issues.

Parties and friends

Your squad will not join or friends appear offline. This is its own tracked component.

Voice chat

Party voice does not connect while the match runs fine. Voice is listed separately on the status page.

Item Shop and purchases

The shop does not load or items do not arrive, which can be a shop or account service problem rather than game servers.

How to fix Fortnite when it only fails for you

Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.

  1. Check the right component. Open status.epicgames.com and read the Fortnite group: Login, Matchmaking and Game Services each have their own state.
  2. Restart the game fully. Close Fortnite and relaunch it. On console, quit the application from the home screen, not just the game.
  3. Use a public DNS. Epic's matchmaking help suggests switching to a public DNS if the status page is clear.
  4. Sync your device clock. Set date and time to automatic on PC and console, since Epic lists clock sync among the fixes for matchmaking errors.
  5. Clear the console cache. Epic recommends clearing the cache on console for the login error. On PlayStation or Xbox, power the console off fully and unplug it for a minute.
  6. Update graphics drivers on PC. For the login error Epic suggests updating graphics drivers and closing background apps.
  7. Disable proxies. Turn off any proxy setting in Windows network options and test again.
  8. Verify game files. In the Epic Games Launcher open the three dots next to Fortnite, choose Manage and Verify.

If none of this helps and the live check above shows the service as up, read our guide on why a website is not loading, or see how to flush DNS.
