Is Valorant Down?

Valorant shows a connection error, a VAN code or will not get past the Riot Client? The live check shows whether Riot's website and sign-in answer, and the error table below follows Riot's own support articles.

Checking Valorant…

Reading the latest result from our servers.

We test playvalorant.com and auth.riotgames.com from our servers. This shows whether the public addresses answer, not what happens inside the app.

Tell us if Valorant does not work for you. One report per visitor every 10 minutes.

Checks run on our servers. We do not keep a list of the addresses you check.

How to use it

  1. Read the live status above. It tests Valorant from outside your network.
  2. Open the official Riot Games Service Status (VALORANT) page for confirmed incidents.
  3. If Valorant is up, work through the fixes below, cheapest first.
  4. Press the report button if it still fails, so other visitors see it.

Is Valorant down for everyone or only for you?

Valorant has several moving parts. The Riot Client handles sign-in, patching and chat. Riot Vanguard, the anti-cheat, must start with Windows before the game can run. Matches run on regional game servers, and Riot's status page lists each server location separately, so one location can be unavailable while the rest of the region plays normally. The game is on Windows, PlayStation 5 and Xbox.

Our check requests the Valorant website and Riot's sign-in service from outside your network. If both answer, look at Riot's service status page for your region. Many Valorant errors come from the Riot Client or Vanguard on your own PC and clear with a restart.

The live check on this page requests playvalorant.com and auth.riotgames.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside Valorant works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.

What usually breaks with Valorant

Riot Client sign-in

The client cannot sign you in or fetch your Riot ID. Riot lists several startup codes, such as 31 and 64, that point to the client rather than the game servers.

Vanguard

VAN codes mean the anti-cheat did not start or your PC does not meet a requirement such as TPM 2.0 on Windows 11. Matches will not start until Vanguard runs.

Login queue

Error 59 means the login queue could not hand out a token. This often shows up during heavy load or platform issues.

Game server location unavailable

Riot posts notices when a specific server location is down. Only players routed to that location are affected.

Maintenance and patches

Codes 39 and 46 mean a server is under maintenance or the platform has planned downtime.

How to fix Valorant when it only fails for you

Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.

  1. Check Riot service status. Open status.riotgames.com, pick VALORANT and your region. Notices list the affected platforms: PlayStation 5, Windows or Xbox.
  2. Restart the Riot Client. Riot's first fix for most codes is to fully close VALORANT and the Riot Client and open them again.
  3. Restart your PC for Vanguard. Vanguard runs at startup. For codes 44, 45 and -81, restart Windows. If it continues, uninstall Riot Vanguard, then launch VALORANT to reinstall it.
  4. Enable TPM 2.0 for VAN 9001. On Windows 11, Vanguard needs TPM 2.0. Follow Riot's TPM 2.0 guide, then relaunch the game.
  5. Allow VALORANT through the firewall. Error 29 is a network issue. Riot's fix is to allow VALORANT through your firewall.
  6. Log out of other devices. Error 5 means your account was signed in elsewhere. Log out from all devices, then sign in again.
  7. Do not play in a virtual machine. Error 138 appears when VALORANT runs in a virtual machine. Install it on a regular Windows installation.
  8. Send logs to Player Support. If a code is not listed or keeps coming back, submit a ticket and attach logs gathered with the Riot Repair Tool.

If none of this helps and the live check above shows the service as up, read our guide on why a website is not loading, or see how to flush DNS.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I see official Valorant outages?

Riot Games Service Status at status.riotgames.com shows current messages per game and region, including which server locations are unavailable and which platforms are affected.

Is a VAN error a server outage?

Usually not. VAN codes come from Riot Vanguard on your PC. A restart, a Vanguard reinstall or a Windows setting such as TPM 2.0 fixes most of them.

Why does Valorant work for my friend but not for me?

You may be routed to a different server location, or your Riot Client or Vanguard may have failed locally. Check the status page for your location and restart the client.

My error code is not in Riot's table. What now?

Riot has noted that its error code list can be out of date. Submit a ticket to Player Support with logs from the Riot Repair Tool attached.

Does a League of Legends outage affect Valorant?

Both games use the Riot Client and Riot account sign-in, so a sign-in problem can affect both. Game server issues are listed separately for each game on the status page.
