Is League of Legends Down?

League client stuck on loading, login failing or a patch that will not finish? The check below shows whether Riot's public services answer, and the fixes cover the local problems that cause most errors.

Checking League of Legends…

Reading the latest result from our servers.

We test www.leagueoflegends.com and ddragon.leagueoflegends.com from our servers. This shows whether the public addresses answer, not what happens inside the app.

Tell us if League of Legends does not work for you. One report per visitor every 10 minutes.

Checks run on our servers. We do not keep a list of the addresses you check.

How to use it

  1. Read the live status above. It tests League of Legends from outside your network.
  2. Open the official Riot Games Service Status page for confirmed incidents.
  3. If League of Legends is up, work through the fixes below, cheapest first.
  4. Press the report button if it still fails, so other visitors see it.

Is League of Legends down for everyone or only for you?

League of Legends depends on several pieces. The Riot Client signs you in and patches the game. The League client talks to Riot's servers for chat, the friends list, the store and queues. The match itself runs on a separate game server in your region. A queue can be broken while the website loads fine, and a match can drop while the client stays connected.

Our check requests the League website and the public Data Dragon file from outside your network. Both come from Riot, so if they answer the company's public services are up. Riot also publishes regional incidents on its status site, which is the place to look for login or matchmaking problems.

The live check on this page requests www.leagueoflegends.com and ddragon.leagueoflegends.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside League of Legends works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.

What usually breaks with League of Legends

Riot Client login

Sign-in loops, errors after you type your details or the client closes itself. Login runs through Riot's account services and also breaks when old client processes are still running.

Patching

The updater stalls, restarts or fails. Disk space, antivirus software and a weak connection are the usual causes.

Queues and matchmaking

You cannot enter a queue, queues never pop or a lobby will not open. This is a client-to-server problem that is often regional.

In-game disconnects

A match freezes or throws you out with a reconnect prompt. The route between you and the game server is the weak spot, often your ISP.

Store, chat and friends

Chat shows offline or the store is blank while you can still queue. These run on separate services from the match servers.

How to fix League of Legends when it only fails for you

Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.

  1. Close every League process. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, end tasks named RiotClientServices, LeagueClient and League of Legends, then start the Riot Client again. This fixes many login loops.
  2. Run the Riot Client as administrator. Right-click the Riot Client shortcut and choose Run as administrator. Riot suggests this for some login and update errors.
  3. Use the repair tool. In the Riot Client open the League of Legends settings and choose Initiate Full Repair. It re-checks game files without removing your account data.
  4. Free up disk space. Patch errors often mean the drive is full. Clear several gigabytes on the drive where League is installed and patch again.
  5. Pause antivirus for the install folder. Add the Riot Games folder as an exclusion rather than turning protection off for good. Overlay programs from Steam or Discord can also interfere, so close them.
  6. Reset the router and change DNS. Power the router off for a minute. Setting DNS to a public resolver can help when the Unexpected Login Error appears.
  7. Use a wired connection. Wi-Fi spikes show up in League as lag and disconnects. Plug in an Ethernet cable and test one match.
  8. Reinstall as a last step. Uninstall League from Windows Settings, delete leftover Riot Games folders, then download the installer again from the official site.

If none of this helps and the live check above shows the service as up, read our guide on why a website is not loading, or see how to flush DNS.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if League servers are down?

Open status.riotgames.com and pick your region. Riot lists incidents for the game and for platform services such as login. Our live check above covers only the public site and data files.

Why can I patch but not log in?

Patching and login use different services. A stuck background process, a wrong region selection or a network block can break login alone.

Is League down for everyone when I get Error 7?

Riot describes Error 7 as server overload. It can affect many players at once, so check the status page and wait before reinstalling anything.

Do I lose my account data if I repair or reinstall?

No. Your account, skins and rank are stored on Riot's servers. Repair and reinstall only touch files on your computer.

What if only my games lag?

That points to the route between you and the game server. Try a wired connection, close downloads and ask your ISP if lag appears only in the evening.
