How to use it
- Read the live status above. It tests Discord from outside your network.
- Open the official Discord Status page for confirmed incidents.
- If Discord is up, work through the fixes below, cheapest first.
- Press the report button if it still fails, so other visitors see it.
Is Discord down for everyone or only for you?
Discord is really three systems wearing one logo: the website and API that handle login and messages, the gateway that keeps your client connected in real time, and the voice servers that carry calls and streams. Any of the three can fail alone. That is why one person can read messages fine while a friend cannot join a voice channel.
Our check requests the Discord website and the public API gateway endpoint from outside your network. If both answer, the platform itself is reachable and the trouble is probably on your side, in a single voice region, or in one app version.
The live check on this page requests discord.com and discord.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside Discord works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.
What usually breaks with Discord
Login and loading
The app sits on the splash screen, shows the grey loading logo or says it cannot connect. This usually points at the API or the gateway, and often clears by itself within minutes.
Messages not sending or not arriving
Messages stay greyed out, fail with a red notice, or arrive late. The gateway connection is unhealthy even though the site may still open.
Voice and video
Calls get stuck on RTC Connecting, Awaiting Endpoint or No Route. Voice servers are separate from the chat servers and are split by region, so one region can fail while others work.
Uploads, images and embeds
Attachments fail or never load while text works. This is the content delivery side of the service, not your connection.
Bots and integrations
Bots go offline or ignore commands. Often the bot host or its token is at fault, but a platform API problem can cause the same symptom for every bot at once.
How to fix Discord when it only fails for you
Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.
- Reload the client. On desktop press Ctrl+R (Cmd+R on Mac) to reload without closing the app. In the browser, do a hard refresh with Ctrl+Shift+R.
- Fully quit and reopen the desktop app. Closing the window only hides Discord in the tray. Right-click the tray icon and choose Quit Discord, then start it again.
- Change the voice region. For a stuck call, open the channel settings, find Region Override and pick a different region such as US East or Europe. The change applies to everyone in the call.
- Turn off your VPN or proxy. Discord Support says voice only works on VPNs that support UDP. Disconnect the VPN or proxy, then test again.
- Clear the app cache. On Windows close Discord, press Win+R, enter %appdata%, delete the Cache, Code Cache and GPUCache folders inside the discord folder, then relaunch.
- Flush DNS. A stale DNS entry can make discord.com unreachable only for you. Run ipconfig /flushdns on Windows. Our DNS guide covers every device.
- Check the firewall and antivirus. Make sure Discord.exe is allowed on private and public networks. Some security suites block the voice UDP ports.
- Update or reinstall. If you are stuck on Update failed, download the installer again from discord.com and run it. Your servers and messages are stored in your account, not in the app.
If none of this helps and the live check above shows the service as up, read our guide on why a website is not loading, or see how to flush DNS.
Common Discord error messages
| Message or code | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| RTC Connecting | Your client cannot reach the voice server. Common causes are a VPN, a blocked UDP port or a failing voice region. | Disable the VPN, switch the region override, then restart the app. |
| Awaiting Endpoint | Users report this when the client waits for Discord to assign a voice server. Discord's voice article does not list it, so this comes from community reports. | Change the channel region and retry. If it stays, check the Discord status page for a voice incident. |
| No Route | The client cannot find a network path to the voice server. | Turn off the VPN, restart your router and allow Discord through the firewall. |
| Error 1015 | Cloudflare, which sits in front of Discord, is rate limiting your IP address after too many requests. | Wait a few minutes and avoid refreshing repeatedly. A different network or turning off a shared VPN usually helps. |
| Update failed | The desktop updater could not download or apply the latest version. | Run the installer from discord.com, or check that the disk is not full and that security software is not blocking the update. |
Official Discord status and support
The company itself has the final word on outages. Check Discord Status for confirmed incidents and use Discord Help Center if your account has a problem that is not an outage. We are not affiliated with Discord.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if Discord is down or if it is just me?
Run the live check at the top of this page. If Discord answers from our server but not from your device, the issue is local. Also open discord.com on your phone using mobile data. If it loads there, your home network or computer is the cause.
Why does Discord work in the browser but not in the app?
That points to the desktop client: a corrupted cache, a failed update or a firewall rule. Quit the app from the tray, clear the cache folders and reinstall if needed.
Where can I see official Discord outages?
Discord publishes incidents at discordstatus.com, with a log of recent problems and subscription options for email or RSS updates.
Is Discord down in only one country?
It can be. Voice servers are regional and some networks block Discord entirely. If friends in another country can connect and you cannot, test without a VPN and try a different voice region.
My bot is offline but Discord is up. What now?
Check that the machine running the bot is online, the token is valid and the bot has not been rate limited. A platform outage normally takes down many bots at the same time.
