How to use it
- Read the live status above. It tests Crunchyroll from outside your network.
- Open the official Crunchyroll Status page for confirmed incidents.
- If Crunchyroll is up, work through the fixes below, cheapest first.
- Press the report button if it still fails, so other visitors see it.
Is Crunchyroll down for everyone or only for you?
Crunchyroll has a website, apps for phones, tablets and smart TVs, and apps for consoles such as PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Account login, the video catalog and the video stream are handled by different parts of the service. During a busy simulcast release, the stream can slow down while the login page still works fine.
Our check requests the main website and an API host from outside your network. Both sit behind protection that may answer with a 403, which still shows the servers are alive. Crunchyroll also runs an official status page that lists active incidents.
The live check on this page requests www.crunchyroll.com and api.crunchyroll.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside Crunchyroll works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.
What usually breaks with Crunchyroll
Login fails
The login form shows Something went wrong or says invalid email or password. Browser settings are a common cause.
Videos will not load
The player shows a black screen, buffers or freezes. Network, DNS or browser add-ons are often responsible.
New episode day slowdown
Popular simulcasts bring heavy traffic. Streams can lag shortly after a release.
App issues on TV or console
The app crashes on launch or shows a blank catalog. A cache or reinstall usually fixes it.
Subtitles and audio
Subtitles are missing or out of sync. This can be a player setting rather than an outage.
How to fix Crunchyroll when it only fails for you
Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.
- Enable JavaScript. Crunchyroll's help says the login error Something went wrong can come from disabled JavaScript. Turn it on and retry.
- Try a private window. Open a private window to rule out cookies and extensions, then sign in.
- Turn off ad blockers. Ad blockers can break the player. Disable them for crunchyroll.com and reload.
- Update the browser. Crunchyroll lists Chrome, Edge and Firefox 117 or newer, and Safari 16.1 or newer, as supported.
- Turn off the VPN. Crunchyroll says VPNs are not supported and can cause speed, compatibility and availability problems.
- Clear the app cache on Roku or Switch. On Nintendo Switch open System Settings and clear the cache for the app. On Roku, follow the cache steps in the help center, then reinstall.
- Restart the console or TV. On PlayStation, power cycle the console and update the system software before relaunching the app.
- Test another network. If streams buffer, test on mobile data. If it plays, your home network or DNS is the cause.
If none of this helps and the live check above shows the service as up, read our guide on why a website is not loading, or see how to flush DNS.
Common Crunchyroll error messages
| Message or code | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Something went wrong (login page) | Crunchyroll's help links this message to JavaScript being disabled in the browser. | Enable JavaScript, then try logging in again. |
| Invalid email or password | The login details were rejected, often because of a typing mistake or autofill. | Type the details by hand, or use the official password reset. Never share your password. |
| Video buffering or black screen | The stream does not reach the player because of the network, add-ons or an old browser. | Test another network, disable add-ons and update the browser or app. |
Official Crunchyroll status and support
The company itself has the final word on outages. Check Crunchyroll Status for confirmed incidents and use Crunchyroll Help Center if your account has a problem that is not an outage. We are not affiliated with Crunchyroll.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if Crunchyroll is down or if it is just me?
Run the live check on this page and open status.crunchyroll.com. If both look fine, test another device or network.
Where can I see official Crunchyroll outages?
Crunchyroll runs a public status page at status.crunchyroll.com that lists incidents and maintenance.
Why does the check show 403?
The site sits behind protection that can refuse automated requests. A 403 still means the server answered, so it is counted as reachable.
Does a VPN cause Crunchyroll errors?
It can. Crunchyroll's help says VPNs are not supported and may cause problems with speed, compatibility or content availability.
What should I send to support?
Include your device model, OS version, app version, region, whether all shows or only some fail, and any error text.
