How to use it
- Read the live status above. It tests Tumblr from outside your network.
- Open the official Automattic Status page for confirmed incidents.
- If Tumblr is up, work through the fixes below, cheapest first.
- Press the report button if it still fails, so other visitors see it.
Is Tumblr down for everyone or only for you?
Tumblr runs as a web app and as mobile apps on top of the same account system. Your dashboard, the post editor and your blog pages are different parts of it. A blog theme can load fine while the dashboard fails, and the other way around.
Tumblr is owned by Automattic, and its help pages point people to Automattic's status site when they want to know about wider problems. Our check requests the main site from outside your network. If it answers, the likely causes are a stale cache, a browser extension or an old app version on your side.
The live check on this page requests www.tumblr.com and help.tumblr.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside Tumblr works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.
What usually breaks with Tumblr
Dashboard will not load
You see a blank page or a spinner. A corrupted browser cache or an extension is a common cause, but a platform problem looks the same.
Post editor hangs
The editor never opens, or keeps showing an error. Tumblr's browser guide lists this symptom and recommends clearing the cache first.
Blog pages and themes
Your blog or a custom theme fails to render. Custom HTML in a theme can break a page that the dashboard still shows normally.
Mobile app problems
The app logs you out, will not refresh or crashes. Tumblr has separate troubleshooting guides for Android and for iOS.
Login and email
Password reset emails do not arrive. Tumblr has an email troubleshooting article for this.
How to fix Tumblr when it only fails for you
Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.
- Clear the browser cache. In your browser open the clear browsing data menu, pick cached images and files and clear them. Tumblr lists this as the first step for a blank screen or a post editor that will not load.
- Turn off extensions. Ad blockers are the usual culprit. Disable them for tumblr.com or open a private window with extensions off.
- Try another browser. If Chrome fails, test Firefox, Edge or Safari. A working second browser points to a profile or extension problem.
- Restart the computer and router. Tumblr suggests this in its browser guide when the page keeps failing.
- Android: log out and clear app data. Log out and back in, switch between mobile data and Wi-Fi, then clear the app's cache and storage in Android settings. Reinstall if it still fails.
- iOS: update, clear cache, check storage. Tumblr's iOS guide asks for a current iOS version. Clear the cache from within the app's settings, log out and back in, and make sure the phone is not full.
- Check Automattic Status. Open automatticstatus.com to see whether Automattic reports a problem with its services.
- Check the email address. If reset emails do not arrive, look in spam and confirm the address on the account, then use Tumblr's email troubleshooting article.
If none of this helps and the live check above shows the service as up, read our guide on why a website is not loading, or see how to flush DNS.
Common Tumblr error messages
| Message or code | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Blank dashboard or screen | The page loaded but the content did not. | Clear the cache, disable extensions and reload. |
| Post editor will not load | The editor script failed or was blocked. | Clear the cache, turn off ad blockers and try another browser. |
| Error that keeps returning | A cached file or a blocked request is repeating the failure. | Use a private window. If it works there, clear cache and cookies in the normal window. |
Official Tumblr status and support
The company itself has the final word on outages. Check Automattic Status for confirmed incidents and use Tumblr Help Center if your account has a problem that is not an outage. We are not affiliated with Tumblr.
Facts and menu names on this page were checked against the official sources below on October 25, 2026. Apps change their menus, so a setting may sit in a slightly different place in your version.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an official Tumblr status page?
Tumblr's help pages point to automatticstatus.com, which is Automattic's status site. Check it alongside our live check.
Why does Tumblr work on my phone but not my laptop?
Then the problem is in your browser, not the service. Clear the cache, disable extensions and try another browser.
Why do my blog and my dashboard behave differently?
They are different pages. A custom theme can fail on its own, so test with a default theme if only your blog is broken.
Should I reinstall the app?
Yes, after logging out, clearing the cache and checking storage. Your posts live in your account, not in the app.
Where do I contact Tumblr?
Use the Tumblr Help Center at help.tumblr.com and follow the Contact Support options there.
