How to use it
- Read the live status above. It tests Microsoft Teams from outside your network.
- Open the official Microsoft 365 Service Status page for confirmed incidents.
- If Microsoft Teams is up, work through the fixes below, cheapest first.
- Press the report button if it still fails, so other visitors see it.
Is Microsoft Teams down for everyone or only for you?
Teams depends on Microsoft sign-in before it can load anything. Work and school accounts sign in through login.microsoftonline.com, where your organization's conditional access rules apply. After sign-in, the Teams service handles chat, meetings and files. A sign-in problem, a tenant policy and a Teams service incident look similar on screen but have different fixes.
Our check requests the Teams web app and the Microsoft sign-in endpoint from outside your network. If both answer, Microsoft's front door is up. A failure only on your device usually points to the desktop client, its cache, your network or a policy in your organization.
The live check on this page requests teams.microsoft.com and login.microsoftonline.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside Microsoft Teams works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.
What usually breaks with Microsoft Teams
Sign-in errors
Teams shows a code such as 0xCAA20004 or 0xCAA70004 on the sign-in screen. These are tied to network access, conditional access or Office authentication.
Login loop in the browser
The web client keeps returning to the sign-in page. Microsoft treats this as a browser-specific problem.
Desktop client misbehaves
The app will not start or shows stale data while Teams on the web works. The local client or its cache is the suspect.
Calls and meetings
Chat works but calls fail. Teams calls need specific IP addresses and ports to be reachable.
Missing chats or channels
Messages or a channel do not appear. Microsoft notes that clearing the cache does not fix this.
How to fix Microsoft Teams when it only fails for you
Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.
- Check for updates. Select Settings and more next to your profile picture at the top right, then select Check for updates.
- Try Teams on the web. Open teams.microsoft.com in a browser. If it works there, the desktop app is the problem.
- Reset new Teams on Windows. Open Settings, go to Apps, Installed apps, search Microsoft Teams, select the three dots, Advanced options, then Reset. This deletes app data and personal settings.
- Clear the cache folder on Windows. Quit Teams, press Windows+R, open %userprofile%\appdata\local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams, delete its contents and restart.
- Clear the cache on Mac. Quit Teams, then in Terminal remove ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams and ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2. Restart Teams.
- Do not clear cache for chat problems. For missing messages, wrong unread counts or a hidden channel, clearing the cache deletes logs support needs. Report it instead.
- Reinstall Teams. Uninstall Teams, delete the Teams folder in %appdata%\Microsoft, then download and install Teams again.
- Ask your admin. Admins can run the Teams Sign-in diagnostic in the Microsoft 365 admin center and check Service health for your tenant.
If none of this helps and the live check above shows the service as up, read our guide on why a website is not loading, or see how to flush DNS.

Frequently asked questions
Is Teams down or is it just me?
Run the live check above, then open the Microsoft 365 status page. Also try Teams on the web or on your phone. If those work, the problem is your desktop client or network.
Where does Microsoft post Teams outages?
The public Microsoft 365 status page at status.cloud.microsoft covers broad incidents. Tenant-specific incidents show up in Service health in the Microsoft 365 admin center, which only admins can see.
Should I clear the Teams cache?
Only for a small set of local client problems. Microsoft says it does not fix missing messages, chat history or channel visibility, and it deletes useful diagnostic logs.
Why can't I sign in when coworkers can?
Conditional access rules, a device policy or an outdated client can affect one user. Note the error code on the sign-in screen and give it to your IT admin.
Is personal Teams different from work Teams?
Yes. Work and school accounts are managed by your organization, so your admin's policies apply to sign-in. Personal accounts are not managed by an organization.
