Is eBay Down?

eBay showing Something went wrong, search failing or checkout stuck? The check below shows whether eBay answers, and the fixes cover problems on your browser and app.

Checking eBay…

Reading the latest result from our servers.

We test www.ebay.com and api.ebay.com from our servers. This shows whether the public addresses answer, not what happens inside the app.

Tell us if eBay does not work for you. One report per visitor every 10 minutes.

Checks run on our servers. We do not keep a list of the addresses you check.

How to use it

  1. Read the live status above. It tests eBay from outside your network.
  2. Open the official eBay Help page for confirmed incidents.
  3. If eBay is up, work through the fixes below, cheapest first.
  4. Press the report button if it still fails, so other visitors see it.

Is eBay down for everyone or only for you?

eBay is a marketplace with many moving parts: search and listings, bidding, cart and checkout, and messages. Each one uses different back-end services. A listing page can load fine while checkout breaks, which is why people report the Something went wrong page on only some actions. eBay community staff have answered reports like that by asking users to clear browser cache and cookies and restart.

Our check requests the eBay website and its API host from outside your network. The site may refuse automated requests with a 403 reply, which still proves the server answered. We could not confirm a public status page, so the Help pages are the official reference.

The live check on this page requests www.ebay.com and api.ebay.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside eBay works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.

What usually breaks with eBay

Something went wrong page

A general error across pages. Often a stale session or cache, sometimes a platform issue.

Checkout and payment

Checkout fails with a generic message while browsing works. Payment is a separate step.

Search and listings

Search is slow or returns nothing. Listing and search services can lag separately.

Sign in problems

You cannot sign in or you are asked to verify repeatedly. Use the official account recovery only.

App problems

The mobile app crashes or shows an empty home screen.

How to fix eBay when it only fails for you

Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.

  1. Clear cache and cookies. In your browser delete cookies and cached files for ebay.com, then restart the browser.
  2. Try another browser. Test in Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari. A private window removes extension effects.
  3. Switch between app and browser. If checkout fails in the app, try ebay.com in a browser, and the reverse.
  4. Update the eBay app. Install the latest version from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  5. Sign out and in. Open Account, sign out and sign in again. For lost access use the Reset your password page in eBay Help.
  6. Pause extensions. Ad and script blockers can break the cart. Turn them off for ebay.com.
  7. Check your payment method. Confirm the card or PayPal details are current if only payment fails.
  8. Restart your device and network. Restart the device, then the router, and retry on mobile data.

If none of this helps and the live check above shows the service as up, read our guide on why a website is not loading, or see how to flush DNS.

Frequently asked questions

Is eBay down or only my account?

Run the live check, then open eBay in a private window. If it works there, clear cache and cookies in your normal browser.

Does eBay have a status page?

We could not confirm one. eBay Help is the official support resource.

Why does the check show 403?

eBay can refuse automated requests. A 403 means the server replied.

Why does checkout fail but browsing works?

Checkout and payment use different services. Try the app or another browser.

What if I cannot sign in?

Use the Reset your password page in eBay Help and never share a code or password with anyone.
