How to use it
- Read the live status above. It tests Amazon from outside your network.
- Open the official Amazon Customer Service page for confirmed incidents.
- If Amazon is up, work through the fixes below, cheapest first.
- Press the report button if it still fails, so other visitors see it.
Is Amazon down for everyone or only for you?
Amazon is many products under one login. The shopping site and app handle search, carts and orders. Prime Video, Amazon Music, Alexa and Fire TV run on their own apps and servers, and product images load from a separate content network. One of these can fail while the others work, so a missing image or a dead Prime Video player does not always mean you cannot shop.
Amazon does not publish a public status page for its shopping site. That is why this page checks the main website and the image servers directly from outside your network. If both answer, the site is reachable and the trouble is more likely your app version, your network or a single device.
The live check on this page requests www.amazon.com and m.media-amazon.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside Amazon works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.
What usually breaks with Amazon
Shopping site and search
Pages time out, search returns nothing or the cart will not update. This usually points at the web front end and tends to clear in minutes.
Checkout and payment
The Place your order button spins or sends you back to the cart. A declined or expired saved card is far more common than an outage, so check the payment method first.
Images and product pages
Product pages open but photos stay blank. The image servers are separate from the page servers, so text can load while pictures do not.
Prime Video playback
Titles freeze, buffer or stop with an error. Streaming runs on its own network, and device or bandwidth limits are the usual cause.
Fire TV, Alexa and Music
Apps on Fire TV crash or Alexa says it has trouble connecting. These use your home network plus their own cloud services.
How to fix Amazon when it only fails for you
Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.
- Test another device and network. Open amazon.com on your phone using mobile data. If it loads there, the problem is your home network or the first device.
- Update the Amazon Shopping app. Open the App Store or Google Play, search Amazon Shopping and install any pending update. On Android you can also clear the cache under Settings, Apps, Amazon Shopping, Storage.
- Close and reopen the shopping app twice. Amazon's own help for app glitches suggests restarting the app twice to clear its cache before trying anything bigger.
- Set date and time to automatic. Prime Video checks the clock on your device. Turn on automatic date and time in the device settings, then reopen the app.
- Limit simultaneous streams. Prime Video allows only a limited number of devices to stream the same title at once. Stop playback on other screens and try again.
- Clear cache and data on Fire TV. On Fire TV go to Settings, Applications, Manage Installed Applications, pick the app, then choose Clear cache. If it still crashes, choose Clear data and sign in again.
- Restart the streaming device. Unplug a Fire TV stick, smart TV or console for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. This clears stuck network sessions.
If none of this helps and the live check above shows the service as up, read our guide on why a website is not loading, or see how to flush DNS.
Common Amazon error messages
| Message or code | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Prime Video error 5004 | Amazon lists this as a sign-in problem on Prime Video. | Confirm your email and password work on amazon.com, then use Forgot your password if needed. Use official account recovery only. |
| Prime Video freezes or buffers | Playback stops or stalls while a title is running, often from a weak connection or an outdated app. | Update the Prime Video app, check that date and time are automatic and turn off any VPN. |
| App not responding on Fire TV | An installed app crashes, will not open or hangs on a Fire TV device. | Restart the device, clear the app cache and data, reinstall the app and install any system update. |

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if Amazon is down or if it is just me?
Run the live check at the top of this page. If Amazon answers from our server but not from your device, the issue is local. Then open amazon.com on your phone using mobile data. If it loads, your home network is the cause.
Does Amazon have an official status page?
Not for the shopping site that we could find. The Amazon Help and Customer Service pages are the official place for known problems. AWS has its own health dashboard, but that covers cloud customers, not amazon.com shoppers.
Why does Prime Video fail while shopping works?
Video uses separate apps and delivery servers. Playback problems are often tied to the device, app version, clock settings or bandwidth rather than the main store.
Why are product images missing?
Images load from a different content network than the page text. A slow route to that network can leave blank boxes. A hard refresh or another network usually fixes it.
My order will not go through. Is Amazon down?
Check the saved card and billing address first. If the site loads and other pages work, a payment issue is much more likely than an outage.
