Is Duolingo Down?

Duolingo not loading, not letting you sign in or showing the wrong progress? The live check below shows whether Duolingo answers, and the fixes cover the account problems that look like outages.

Checking Duolingo…

Reading the latest result from our servers.

We test www.duolingo.com and www.duolingo.com from our servers. This shows whether the public addresses answer, not what happens inside the app.

Tell us if Duolingo does not work for you. One report per visitor every 10 minutes.

Checks run on our servers. We do not keep a list of the addresses you check.

How to use it

  1. Read the live status above. It tests Duolingo from outside your network.
  2. Open the official Duolingo Status page for confirmed incidents.
  3. If Duolingo is up, work through the fixes below, cheapest first.
  4. Press the report button if it still fails, so other visitors see it.

Is Duolingo down for everyone or only for you?

Duolingo publishes an official status page that tracks three separate services: the main Duolingo app, the Duolingo English Test and Duolingo for Schools. One can have trouble while the others run normally. Lessons, streaks, leagues and your profile all depend on the main Duolingo service and your account.

Our check requests the Duolingo website and a public API endpoint from outside your network. If both answer, the service is reachable. Many reports that look like outages are really account issues, such as signing in to a second account by mistake, which the help center explains.

The live check on this page requests www.duolingo.com and www.duolingo.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside Duolingo works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.

What usually breaks with Duolingo

App or site will not load

Lessons fail to start or the app shows errors. Check the status page, where incidents such as increased errors are posted.

Cannot sign in

The password is rejected or the reset email does not arrive. Google and Facebook sign-ups use the email from those accounts.

Progress looks gone

You signed in but your course and streak look new. You may have created a second account by accident.

Leaderboards missing

The leagues tab does not appear because the profile is private, the user is under 13 or a classroom setting applies.

English Test or Schools issues

These run as separate components on the status page and can fail on their own.

How to fix Duolingo when it only fails for you

Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.

  1. Check the status page. Open status.duolingo.com and look at the Duolingo, Duolingo English Test and Duolingo for Schools components.
  2. Reset your password. Tap Forgot password on the app login screen, or visit duolingo.com/forgot_password and enter the email tied to your account.
  3. Use the right email. If you signed up with Google or Facebook, enter the email linked to that Google or Facebook account.
  4. Check spam for the reset email. Duolingo sends a reset link by email. Look in your spam folder if it is not in your inbox.
  5. Find your original account. If progress looks gone, log out and sign in again with any other email you may have used.
  6. Turn leaderboards back on. Go to duolingo.com/settings/privacy and check Make my profile public.
  7. Protect your streak. Buy a Streak Freeze in advance from the Shop. On the app tap the gem icon, on the web click Shop in the side menu.
  8. Report a bug. Use Send Feedback in the help center to submit a bug report. For purchase problems select Purchase Issue.

If none of this helps and the live check above shows the service as up, read our guide on why a website is not loading, or see how to flush DNS.

Official Duolingo status and support

The company itself has the final word on outages. Check Duolingo Status for confirmed incidents and use Duolingo Help Center if your account has a problem that is not an outage. We are not affiliated with Duolingo.

Facts and menu names on this page were checked against the official sources below on October 28, 2026. Apps change their menus, so a setting may sit in a slightly different place in your version.

Frequently asked questions

Is Duolingo down or is it just me?

Run the live check above and look at status.duolingo.com. If both are fine, try the app on mobile data or open duolingo.com in a browser to rule out your network or app.

Will I lose my streak if Duolingo is down?

We cannot promise how Duolingo handles outages. A Streak Freeze protects a missed day only if bought in advance, and a Streak Repair can be bought with gems after a streak is lost.

Why does my account look empty?

Duolingo says you may have created a second account by accident. Log out and try your other email addresses.

How do I contact Duolingo?

Use Send Feedback in the help center to submit a bug report. Duolingo never needs your password for this.

Is the Duolingo English Test separate?

Yes. The status page lists it as its own component, next to the main app and Duolingo for Schools.
