How to use it
- Read the live status above. It tests DeepSeek from outside your network.
- Open the official DeepSeek Status page for confirmed incidents.
- If DeepSeek is up, work through the fixes below, cheapest first.
- Press the report button if it still fails, so other visitors see it.
Is DeepSeek down for everyone or only for you?
DeepSeek runs two separate services. The chat service at chat.deepseek.com and in the mobile apps handles conversations, file uploads and search. The API at api.deepseek.com serves developers and apps built on DeepSeek models. The official status page tracks them as separate components, so the chat can have trouble while the API works, or the reverse.
Our check requests the chat website and the API from outside your network. A refusal or unauthorized reply still means the server is answering. If both respond, check status.deepseek.com, then the fixes below. Some login errors are tied to your network or phone number, not to an outage.
The live check on this page requests chat.deepseek.com and api.deepseek.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside DeepSeek works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.
What usually breaks with DeepSeek
Chat not responding
Messages do not get an answer or the page hangs. Look at the Chat Service components on the status page.
Login problems
Verification codes do not arrive, or you see Current device environment error. DeepSeek says that message means your IP address or phone number was flagged as high risk.
Chat history fails to load
DeepSeek lists two causes: your network connection, or a chat that is too long to show in the app.
File uploads fail
The file service is tracked separately. Unsupported formats, size limits, damaged files or an unstable network can all stop an upload.
API errors and timeouts
Under heavy traffic the API keeps your connection open. If inference has not started within 10 minutes, the server closes it.
How to fix DeepSeek when it only fails for you
Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.
- Check DeepSeek Status. Open status.deepseek.com and look at the API Service and Chat Service components separately.
- Refresh to sync devices. On the web, refresh the page. In the app, refresh the chat history sidebar and open the chat again.
- Open long chats on the web. If a long conversation will not load in the app, DeepSeek suggests viewing it in the web version.
- Try a different network. For Current device environment error, DeepSeek says to try a different environment. Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data or the reverse.
- Check the upload. Confirm the file type is supported, the file is not damaged and the size and count are within the limits, then upload again on a stable connection.
- Pace API requests. A 429 means you hit your account's concurrency limit. Limits apply per account across all API keys, so reduce parallel requests.
- Handle keep-alive lines. If your code parses raw HTTP, allow for empty lines in normal responses and : keep-alive comments in streams while a request waits.
If none of this helps and the live check above shows the service as up, read our guide on why a website is not loading, or see how to flush DNS.
Common DeepSeek error messages
| Message or code | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 401 Authentication Fails | The API key is wrong. | Check the key, or create a new one on the DeepSeek platform. |
| 402 Insufficient Balance | Your API account has run out of balance. | Check your balance and top up on the platform. |
| 429 Rate Limit Reached | You are sending requests too fast or above your concurrency limit. | Slow down and lower the number of parallel requests. |
| 500 Server Error | DeepSeek's server hit a problem. | Retry after a short wait. Contact DeepSeek if it continues. |
| 503 Server Overloaded | The server is overloaded from high traffic. | Retry after a short wait and check the status page. |
| Current device environment error | Your IP address or phone number was flagged as high risk at login. | Try a different network or environment. |
Official DeepSeek status and support
The company itself has the final word on outages. Check DeepSeek Status for confirmed incidents and use DeepSeek Help Center if your account has a problem that is not an outage. We are not affiliated with DeepSeek.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I see official DeepSeek outages?
DeepSeek runs status.deepseek.com. It lists the API models and the chat service components, including file upload and search, with an event calendar.
The chat is down but my API calls work. Why?
The chat service and the API are separate systems with separate status entries. One can have an incident while the other runs normally.
Is a 429 error an outage?
No. It means your account reached its concurrency limit. A 503 Server Overloaded or 500 Server Error points to DeepSeek's side.
Why does the API keep returning empty lines?
Under high traffic DeepSeek keeps the connection alive with empty lines for normal requests and keep-alive comments for streaming. Standard JSON parsing ignores them.
How do I contact DeepSeek?
Use the help center at static.deepseek.com/faq or the service email listed on deepseek.com. Do not share your password or API key with anyone.
