Is Google Gemini down for everyone or only for you?
Gemini is available as a web app, an Android and iOS app, and inside Google Workspace for work and school accounts. Developers use the separate Gemini API. Consumer, Workspace and API access run on different settings, so one account can work while another does not.
Our check requests gemini.google.com and the public API host. The API host answers 404 without a key, which still proves the servers respond. Google's help center has a page that explains Gemini error codes, and Workspace admins can see service status in the dashboard.
The live check on this page requests gemini.google.com and generativelanguage.googleapis.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside Google Gemini works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.
What usually breaks with Google Gemini
Prompt fails with a code
A four-digit code such as 1099 appears. Google groups many of these as an unexpected issue while processing the prompt.
Location block
Gemini is not available in every country or region. Error 1060 relates to this.
Heavy traffic
You see a notice about too many requests in a short time. Waiting a few minutes helps.
Connected apps
Requests that use Gmail, Drive or other Workspace data fail when the connection is off.
Account and Workspace access
A work or school account can show errors until an admin turns Gemini on.
How to fix Google Gemini when it only fails for you
Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.
- Resubmit the same prompt. Google says brief connection or server problems often fix themselves, so send it again.
- Open a new chat. Earlier context can cause the error. A new chat starts clean.
- Remove or replace attachments. Check the file type and size. Try without the attachment.
- Type instead of voice. If you use voice input or Gemini Live, switch to a typed prompt.
- Check the network. Make sure the device is online and switch networks if the connection is slow or unstable.
- Wait about 5 minutes. Google suggests waiting and retrying when traffic is high.
- Refresh or restart. Refresh the browser tab or restart the mobile app, then try again.
- Check connected apps. In Gemini settings, open Connected Apps and confirm the one you need is linked.
