Is Yahoo Mail down for everyone or only for you?
Yahoo Mail depends on two main pieces: the Yahoo sign-in service, which handles your account, and the mail service itself. The page you use can be the web inbox, the Yahoo Mail app or another mail program. The web inbox is the most sensitive to browser state, so an old cache can break it even when Yahoo is fine.
Our check requests mail.yahoo.com and login.yahoo.com from outside your network. If both answer, Yahoo's front doors are open. Yahoo does not offer a public status page, so its Help Center is the official source.
The live check on this page requests mail.yahoo.com and login.yahoo.com from our servers every few minutes. A normal answer from those addresses means the service is reachable from outside your network. It does not prove that every feature inside Yahoo Mail works, which is why the problem reports and the fixes below matter.
What usually breaks with Yahoo Mail
Sign-in loops
You enter your details and return to the login page. Cookies or a blocked sign-in service are likely.
Temporary Error pages
Yahoo shows a numbered Temporary Error. Most of them clear on their own after a short time.
Mail will not send
Messages stay in Outbox. Check the connection and any limits on the account.
Mail app sync
The Yahoo Mail app does not refresh or shows old mail. Updating the app or removing and adding the account fixes many cases.
Third-party apps
Outlook or Apple Mail cannot connect. These need an app password and the correct server settings.
How to fix Yahoo Mail when it only fails for you
Start at the top. The first steps are the cheapest and fix most cases that are not a real outage.
- Wait and try again. Yahoo says Temporary Error 15 usually corrects itself within a few minutes to a few hours.
- Restart the browser. Close every window of the browser, reopen it and sign in again.
- Clear the browser cache. Delete cached files and cookies for yahoo.com, then reload mail.yahoo.com.
- Check browser support. Use a current version of a supported browser. An unsupported browser is a listed cause of Temporary Errors.
- Sign out of all devices. Yahoo says using one account in two browsers or many devices at once can trigger errors. Sign out everywhere and sign in once.
- Use the app. If the web inbox fails, try the Yahoo Mail app for iOS or Android or your phone's built-in mail app.
- Toggle a setting for Error 8. Yahoo says making any settings change, such as turning the signature on and off, often stops Temporary Error 8 from coming back.
- Use the official recovery tools. If you cannot sign in, use Yahoo's account recovery. Never share your password or codes.
